It presents an overview of the evidence and the policy options available for placing warning and product labels on alcoholic beverage containers.

WHO has developed a set of resources to monitor health inequalities – one of which, the Health Equity Assessment Toolkit (HEAT), was recently tested in Indonesia, allowing the country to analyse and interpret inequalities in health.

Using experience and lessons learned to help countries combat tobacco industry tactics

Across the WHO European Region, countries such as Georgia, Ireland, Slovenia, the United Kingdom and others are passing legislation that mandates plain or standardized packaging of tobacco products. These laws can have a significant impact on reducing tobacco use and preventing its harmful health effects.
However, such efforts often meet with aggressive attempts by the tobacco industry to block or weaken them. Governments are increasingly finding ways to successfully counter the tactics of the tobacco industry and implement laws, regulations and public health initiatives to strengthen tobacco control.
The Tobacco Control Playbook, a resource created by WHO/Europe, highlights the arguments and approaches that leaders have developed and used to counteract and succeed against the tobacco industry.

UNITED NATIONS, July 13, 2017 (IPS)- More than two billion people lack access to clean and safe drinking water, according to a new report released by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Although significant progress to ensure access to drinking water has been achieved, there is still a long way to go to ensure its quality—deemed free from pollutants and safe for drinking.
“Clean water and sanitation is central to other outcomes, for example, nutrition among children. While many countries like India have made it a top priority, many others haven’t been able to emphasise the issue yet,” Sanjay Wijesekera, Chief of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene at UNICEF, told IPS.
